Brewers Win Wild Game 7-5 Over Phillies

The month of September is here and a playoff-type atmosphere was felt at American Family Field on Friday night. The Milwaukee Brewers earned a come-from-behind victory 7-5 over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies struck first with a solo home run by Kyle Schwarber in the first inning. After that, Freddy Peralta was pretty much untouchable for the Brewers on the mound. He completed six innings, allowing just that one run. He struck out ten batters and didn't walk any Phillies.

The Brewers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Willy Adames hit a three-run home run. Milwaukee led 3-1 until the top of the eighth inning.

Philadelphia's offense came alive in the the eighth inning, highlighted by a Trea Turner three-run home run to give the Phillies a 5-3 lead. However, the Brewers offense answered in a big way.

Milwaukee scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The inning was highlighted by a ground ball by Owen Miller that got by third baseman Alec Bohm and down the line. Since the Brewers had the bases loaded, they were able to score three runs on the play, and take a 7-5 lead.

Devin Williams, after giving up the Turner home run in the previous inning, slammed the door on the Phillies in the ninth inning to cement the 7-5 win for Milwaukee.

Milwaukee is 75-59. They are 3.5 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs for the top spot in the NL Central. They will play the second game of the series on Saturday night at 6:15pm at American Family Field. After the game, listen to Tim Allen on The Baseball Postgame Show presented by Hitters Baseball Academy.
